The Academia Europaea Bucharest Hub was formally inaugurated on 9 May, 2025. Around that date, two international conferences were organized: AI and Humanity (8-9 May), and Synchronism: Overtaking History, Shaping Temporality (10-11 May). More information and the videos can be accessed via the Hub’s homepage, http://www.acadeurobucharest.eu/ . The Royal Family of Romania has kindly offered a reception at Elisabeta Palace on 9 May, a day with multiple symbolic meanings. The members of the AE Board were the special guests. They were joined by Romanian academics (including the leadership of the Romanian Academy), many of them current (or, hopefully, future) MAEs, state officials, other public figures, donors and partners (current and prospective).
The rest of the year was devoted to institution building, networking, and fundraising. Most results of this work are to become visible in 2026 and in the years to come.
Among them, the 1st AE Bucharest Hub Days (8-10 May 2026, with partners including the Romanian Academy, and the Writers’ Union of Romania); the 26th Annual Conference of the Utopian Studies Society / Europe (1-5 July 2026, with partners including USS/E, the University of Bucharest’s Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, the Writers’ Union of Romania); the international conference, Attacks on History (29-31 October 2026, with partners such as the International Commission for the History and Theory of Historiography, EuroClio, PalgraveMacmillan).
The AE Bucharest Hub is also preparing to host the 38th Annual Conference of the AE (12-16 October).
With all our best wishes for 2026, and in gratitude to all those who made our Hub possible,
Mircea Dumitru, Academic Director
Sorin Antohi, Executive Director
