Academia Europaea Bucharest Hub Days 2026

Academia Europaea Bucharest Hub Days

7-10 May 2026

The first edition of the Academia Europaea Hub Days marked the first anniversary of the Hub, and included two interdisciplinary conferences, AI: Beyond Humanity, and The Emporion Road: From the West to the East. Full programs and videos are posted on the Hub’s homepage and on its YouTube channel, respectively. Follow-up activities are being planned in connection with both conferences.

The creation of the Cantemir Medal and of the Ioan Petru Culianu Prize, awarded by international juries under the auspices of the Academia Europaea, was announced. Formal calls for nominations will be circulated in October, and the first recipients will be the special guests of the next edition of the Hub Days, on 7-9 May 2027.

On 7 May, conference participants, Hub staff, and other guests were offered a reception by the National Bank of Romania. On 9 May, a small group of foreign participants, including Dr. David Coates, Executive Secretary of the Academia Europaea, went on a trip to the Carpathians and the Peleș, Pelișor, and Bran castles. On 10 May, many of the above were guests of the Royal Family of Romania at a Garden Party marking 160 years since the accession to the throne of King Carol I, as well as Romania’s Independence Day.

Throughout these busy days, formally and informally, important strategic plans were discussed, based on the Hub’s own initiatives and on joint projects with institutions, organizations, and networks from around the world.

Our next major event is the annual conference of the Utopian Studies Society / Europe (1-4 July), with some 140 participants from all continents. Our other major event in 2026 (29-31 October) is an international conference on the attacks on history and historians, from censorship, rewriting, and propaganda to imprisonment and murder.

Details and updates are to be posted on the Hub’s homepage in due course.
